Twitter's top 20 accounts to follow to stay up-to-date with the financial markets

Staying informed on financial markets is important. As a trader it allows you to implement informed strategies. As an enthusiast it allows you to know what is happening around the world and why – news often hits financial markets before making headlines. Twitter is fast, instant and provides snippets of quick information, often linking to more detailed analysis. If you want news on a certain topic, such as Gold, you can simply type key words into the search box to see the most recent tweets and news. In no particular order, here are our top 20 accounts to follow on Twitter if you want to keep informed on the financial markets: 1. Julmor Commodities @julmorcommodity This account offers a good insight into the commodities market. Tweets are regular and snappy. 2. Oil & Gas Journal @OGJOnline Expect statistics and forecasts to help understand this vital industry. May not be the best account for implementing trading strategies due to its reactive nature but still an informative Twitter account. 3. Pinnacle Commodity Group @PCGCommod Follow PCG for frequent tweets on a range of commodities such as ethanol, grains and beef. Admittedly this feed is only suitable for those with an interest in the commodity market, but provides a good snapshot of events around the world. 4. Arlan Suderman @ArlanFF101 Arlan offers more technical insight on the commodities market with some jargon used. Expect frequent grain updates and a good learning curve. A must-follow for those interested in crops and commodities despite a heavy focus on the North American supply-chain. 5. George Osborne @George_Osborne If you can overlook some of the marketing, the current Chancellor of the Exchequer is a good source of current government views on the British economy. Be aware that this Twitter account will be less useful should he no longer be in power after the General Election. 6. Somewhat of a market sceptic, he reflects the witty character of many market followers with personal insights and up-to-date news in a capitalised font. His website is also useful. 10. Phil Flynn @EnergyPhilFlynn When you think of Phil Flynn think of oil. He is an energy market analyst that offers breaking news and insights into supply and demand changes. This is a good account to follow to get to grips with changing prices in the commodities industry. 11. Michael Hewson @mchewson_CMC Michael is another excellent trader that tweets on news that affects the market. Expect breaking news and video analysis with the odd hint of market movements. It offers objective analysis that complements personal Twitter accounts by giving information on the market. Expect frequent tweets. 13. Finance News @ftfinancenews Similar to @FTeconomics, this Twitter feed focuses more on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. Still a valuable feed to follow for analysing financial markets, particularly for share information. Expect frequent tweets and weekly reviews. 14. Market Watch @marketwatch Market Watch provides good information on all things finance. Be wary of filtering through some of their irrelevant tweets but, once mixed with others in this list, helps to provide a balanced outlook on the market. 15. CMC Markets UK @CMCMarkets CMC Markets offers video analysis and market alerts. Helpful for understanding what to look out for in the coming week and also for understanding changes in the market. Do not expect breaking news. 16. Futures Magazine @futuresmagazine This is an informative account on the futures market. Tweets tend to be reactive rather than active meaning news is likely to be slightly outdated. With over 20,000 followers this account is a respected source of information. 17. Fast Financial Times @fastFT FastFT is a frequent-tweeter that offers quick snaps on current market information. A quick glance at this account everyday will provide ample insight into what is occurring around the world. A vital 24-hour feed. 18. Bloomberg Markets @markets Bloomberg Markets has regular and quality content. This account tends to retweet other informative accounts and provides a good overview of events around the world. 19. Sucden Financial Ltd @sucdenfinancial Sucden Financial are an international derivatives broker with frequent market analysis and snappy tweets. 20. StockTwits @StockTwits Stock Twits created the $TWTR (e.g. Twitter) hashtags that allow you to easily find news on a certain stock or industry.
